THE MEANS OF FURNITURE MAKING $445Purchase required to enroll

Design and construction are deeply interrelated pursuits, and a deep understanding of the basic principles is an foundational element of good craft. This 6 Week class will introduce the fundamental tools and techniques needed to design and build furniture. In addition to learning the purpose and proper use of common hand and power tools, students will be introduced to observational drawing and simple drafting techniques that will provide a basis for the proper layout and design of their work.

During the course, participants will make their own marking and layout tools, learning principles of proportion, drafting, and the selection, use, and maintenance of both hand and power cutting tools. Proper shop safety and etiquette will be introduced and reinforced throughout the course. All supplies are included.

The course will be team-taught by group of local practitioners, including Cliff Spencer (www.alasaw.com), Aaron Lane (www.lanewoodworking.com), Seth Weizenecker (www.weizwoodfurniture.com), Shane Carter, & Bruce Lanier to provide a variety of different skill sets to this inaugural cohort.

This course will serve as a prerequisite to participation in subsequent learning opportunities in our Wood Shop.

Join us for a fun introduction to gas welding (welding the traditional way with oxygen & acetylene), while making fun Holiday gifts or decorations. Kids 10 and up welcome during the weekend workshops if signed up with an adult.

GAS WELDING - Build a Candleabra Purchase required to enroll

Prerequisite - None, Beginner Class
Kids 12 & up welcome when signed up with an adult

Design and build a candelabra by welding the old way, with oxygen and acetylene. In this class you will learn from Julie Carpenter how to cut, shape, and weld steel rods into a three dimensional object.

Gas Welding Skills - Beginning - Intermediate $85Purchase required to enroll

Come experience one of our most popular classes taught by the awesome metal artist Julie Carpenter. Learn to Weld the traditional way using an oxygen/acetylene fueled flame, while making an item to take home. Class size is kept small, 4 students max.

$5 materials fee - due at class time

Wire Welding Skills - Beginning - Intermediate $125Purchase required to enroll

-Pre requisite: None - No experience required but Gas Welding Skills would be a good class to start with if you have any concerns about welding

-Kids only allowed with teacher or staff approval

Spend an evening learning the basics of wire, or MIG (metal inert gas) welding from Julie Carpenter. You will learn while creating something special to take home. This fast paced class is great for those curious about working with metal. Space is limited to 4 students. Participants are also allowed to bring in their own welders to use, just check with us concerning the electrical requirements. Class size is kept small, 4 person max.

Join us for fun welding work nights supervised by the awesome Julie Carpenter. This night is intended people who have taken one of our welding classes and are eager to work more with metal. Julie Carpenter will be here to help students refine skills while students start or finish their own projects.

Ceramics

Part of our Ceramics Skills series, we are hosting a three-week workshop on hand building with clay. On Sunday afternoons, our instructor Katherine Rubins will build our skills with clay off the wheel and show us how to make beautiful, well-made ceramic pieces as holiday gifts. The class runs for three Sunday afternoons beginning December 4th.

Ceramics Skills: Family Editon From $34 per visit with Ceramics Class Pack: 3 classes passPurchase required to enroll

-Pre requites - None - Beginner - Intermediate level class - No experience needed
-Kids 10 and up welcomed, kids under 10 welcomed if signed up with an adult

Our class size is kept small (6 person max), giving you one-on-one time with our skilled instructors and the ability to explore both throwing and hand building techniques. The Ceramics Skills session runs for three or six weeks and we require a three class minimum. Supplies (up to 10lbs of clay, tools, and glazes) are included in the price of the class.Additional clay can be purchased for 1$ a pound. We use cone 5/6 clay in our studio, anything else brought in that is not cone 5/6 must be approved by one of our staff and clearly labeled. At the completion of three classes you can expect to have one to three items completed and ready for the last firing. Please note, you can use your three classes in our Saturday and Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evenings classes, so you can start a piece during one evening class, then attend another class time to get instruction and continue working on your project.

Print

Yellowhammer Creative Print School: Intro to Screen Printing $75Purchase required to enroll

Learn the basic skills of screen printing in MAKEbhm's Print Lab from the talented folks at Yellowhammer Creative. This workshop provides you with a casual, fun introduction to the materials and processes you use to develop screen printed designs of your own. Each student will leave with their own screen printed t-shirt and poster.

Intro to Traditional Stone Carving $440Purchase required to enroll


Prerequisite - None, Beginner Class
Kids 12 & up welcome when signed up with an adult

In this four-day workshop participants will learn to carve soft alabaster while gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to carve a variety of different types of stone. Class time will include instruction in both age-old and modern techniques of using carving chisels, hammers, rasps and files. A great class for beginners to intermediate skill levels focusing on learning tools and techniques to create stone sculptures with plenty of hands on carving time. A supply list will be available upon registration.

The workshops emphasize the basic hand tool set - the hammer and flat, tooth & point chisels along with detail rasps. Students will work on their own project in alabaster, bringing the piece from concept through to completion. The techniques learned will allow them to move on to the full range of stone - marble, limestone, etc. They'll leave with knowledge of next steps in terms of additional tools; grinders, abrasives, etc. Its a fast-moving, intensive workshop.

$80 supply fee - due at class time - Your supply kit will be provided by your instructor and includes safety glasses, hammer & chisels, rasp and a medium-sized block of Alabaster (all of which will be yours to take home).

Polyurethane Mold Making Class Purchase required to enroll

Pre requisites - None - Beginner level class
Kids 12 & up are welcome if signed up with a parent, exception made with teacher approval

Come join us to learn how to build a polyurethane mold. Bring one of your favorite items that you have always wanted to duplicate, item must be symmetrical and smaller than a basketball.
First, will build a box mold out of cardboard, learn process of general mold making, and pour our molds. At our second session, we will liberate our molds and pour the porcelain positive image. Then during the third session we will glaze all finished pieces, or finish up pieces that were not finished in previous sessions.
